Accusing the CBI of double standards, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh has sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention in the ongoing probe in disproportionate assets cases against party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family members.

In a letter to Prime Minister few days back, the SP general secretary said Yadav and his family members and those close to the party were being targeted by income tax officials and alleged that CBI was adopting double standards in probing cases against them.

"The CBI is maintaining double standards in relation to Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family members and the chargesheeted and tainted Cabinet Minister Lalu Prasad and Ms Mayawati, the chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh....This politics of carrot and stick does not augur well in all the cases", Amar Singh said in the letter.

The SP leader was referring to the CBI's probe into fodder scam against Lalu Prasad and Taj Corridor case involving Mayawati.

He claimed that Vishwanath Chaturvedi, who filed the PIL against Mulayam Singh and his family members following which the probe was ordered, has gone on record saying that Justice A R Laxmanan would be offered the post of Chairman of the Law Commission for "fixing" Yadav family.
