Heavy rains pounded Kerala on Friday, claiming at least two lives and leading authorities to shift hundreds of persons to relief camps.

Continuous rainfall and strong winds since Thursday, triggered severe sea erosion, while a minor landslip was reported from the high range Idukki district.

In most cities and towns, power supply and traffic were disrupted as trees uprooted by rains fell on roads snapping overhead electric wires.

In Kollam, one Thresiamma, a fish vendor, died on touching a live wire which snapped and fell on the road. In

Irinjalakuda in Thrissur, a labourer was crushed to death under an uprooted coconut tree.

Traffic to and from the Trivandrum Central station was disrupted for about two hours after a tree fell on an incoming train, snapping overhead electric wires. But no one was hurt in the incident.

Seven children of Ramavarmapuram Higher Secondary school at Viyyur near Thrissur sustained minor injuries after the branch of a tree fell on the tiled roof of their class room.
